Besides working on bikes and taking things apart, Meryl enjoys meeting all the neighborhood dogs and cats, wandering aimlessly, and organizing for a more pedestrian and cyclist friendly city. They’ve also been teaching others to fix bikes through various community projects for the past several years. I used the Kreg jig to make pocket holes in the 12 pieces. Once cut, lay your four pieces out on a flat surface. Working as a bike messenger got them interested in learning about fixing bikes and they’ve been working as a bike mechanic for the past 7 years. The bike rack base will be composed of 4 pieces of 2×4, 2 long (58 each), and 2 short (12 each). Meryl LaBorde has been using a bike as their main mode of transportation for their entire adult life. If your plans change and you can’t make it, please email at least 48 hours before the event so we can add someone off the waitlist.

Connect the pieces with glue and screws.Layout the parts of the back wall so that the ends run long beyond the bottom board of the assembly. If using the cut list for larger bikes, but you want the rack to work for small bikes as well, install extra dividers into the base to “pinch” the back tire of the small bikes, and a back rail for front tire to rest on, since the tire won’t reach the taller slots.Be sure and read through the comments before beginning this build, since you may require a repair stand with a bit more stability. The bike’s bottom bracket just rests on the stand. This is a pretty clever design that uses no clamp to hold the bike in place. Assemble the parts with glue and screws. It’s a free-standing PVC bike repair stand.Layout the pieces of the base so that the ends run long beyond the back of the base.Predrill two holes at each connection point.Transfer the lines to the inside face of each board.Mark the location and spacing of the boards on the horizontal base and back pieces.Using one of our cut lists, cut all the 2 x 4 parts to size-except the angled supports-using a miter saw.
